    Two questions for today:

    1. Does anyone have any good tips for apartment hunting in a renter-heavy market?

    2. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make new hires feel welcome? My first direct report started on Monday, and I don’t want her to be lonely!

Sorry for being MIA! Apartment hunting in SF is super time consuming – apparently you need to be ruthless to get a place! I’m looking forward to getting back into the ‘ol blogging routine tonight :).

    Clover Bakery

Today started with a co-worker rounding a corner toward me at the exact moment that I was suspiciously sniffing the sleeve of my sweater.

“Oh! Sorry for interrupting your… uh… moment.”

I swear I don’t normally kick-off my mornings with this ritual. It just so happened that this morning I managed to get boiling hot water on my hand while adding some to my two packets of maple & brown sugar oatmeal, causing me to spill the whole concoction over my entire left arm. My co-worker, of course, didn’t buy it. And I swear I smelt like a muffin for the rest of the day.

Oh well! The rest of the day’s eats went much better.

Most notable was the post-Japanese lunch Clover Bakery run (hey, it was next door – it would have been irresponsible NOT to stop by).

Chocolate chip danish, get in my belly!!!photo 2-13.jpg

And… this little guy. Honestly, I don’t even know what it is, but I just had to get it for obvious reasons. My best guess is that it’s an almond mochi bun… Yup, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I actually haven’t had the chance to eat either of these bad boys yet, since the office was treated with (drum roll please) fancy pants cupcakes! I realize that I am not the most discerning cupcake eater, but, seriously, these particular cupcakes were out of this world. I had a marble chocolate and vanilla one with ooey gooey cream cheese frosting. I’m obviously still fantasizing about it a little bit.

We have lots of stuff slated for this weekend, including a trip to San Francisco, a 10K fun run and a Mexican themed Amazing Race dinner party. I am very excited :).

    Have a great one!

Did not feel like working out today after leaving the office, so I decided to give myself the day off, especially since I got 5 miles in yesterday. Now I’m on the couch working through some tricky work stuff that I’ve conveniently been ignoring and listening to/watching a Project Runway marathon. Not bad, not bad.

    Zippy and the Roomie

My roommate (the one that is not Denis) had a little extra time on his hands today at work, and, as a result, stumbled upon my Hawaiian ziplining pictures on the blog.

    The result?

His newest endeavor, entitled “Zippy and Friends,” involves Zippy crashing celebrity photographs.

Autographed copies available upon request. Think any galleries will pick him up?

Island in the Sun (“Hip Hip”)

  • Paula 4:46 pm on September 21, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Back from Hawaii a couple pounds heavier AND survived my first day back at work (albeit at island pace). Going to do a quickie workout b/c, boy, do I have pictures to share!

Last minute packing for Hawaii! Leaving at 6am tomorrow and coming back Monday night. Denis said he’s going to punch me if I blog during the trip, so chances that I’ll be posting are slim (domestic abuse = bad).

Silly Quesadilla (pronounced -diLLa, not -diya!)

Since we’re embarking on vacation in just 1.5 days (YEEHAW!), I’m trying to clean out our fridge so quesadillas were on the menu yet again tonight.

I did add one twist though… sweet potato fries!

I baked the fries (sprinkled with kosher S&P) straight out of the freezer at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. Then I plopped them in a non-stick with a WW tortilla and THREE wedges of Laughing Cow. For some reason, I couldn’t stop myself when adding the cheese. All that was going through my head was “Must. Have. More. Chez.” It was intense, to say the least.

I paired the jazzed up quesadilla with a side salad of spring mix, pico de gallo and ketchup for dipping.

Denis, on the other hand, is not good at fridge cleaning. He picked up Beef Pho to go from the nearby Pho Hoa. What a guilty mug.

I obviously didn’t exercise today. The anticipation of all that cheese prevented me from working out pre-dinner. The digestion of all that cheese is preventing me from working out post-dinner.

Oh, and that 5 pound curry chicken burrito I had at lunch from the office cafe may have also played a factor.

    It was worth it.

    Wine Goes With Everything

Impulse wine purchase from BevMo. I choose my wine based on how much the label makes me smile.

Chicken quesadillas with a heirloom tomato and white nectarine salad.

    I heart wine.

Just kidding! Give me some credit. My wine glass(es) was(were) much more reasonably sized. This one is filled to the brim with Diet Coke.

Now I’m off to dance around in circles in the middle of the living room. Toodooloo!
